PTA prices fell sharply week-over-week as the market continued to be affected by ongoing tensions between China and the US. PTA FOB China was $658/mt in April 11, an increase of $1/mt from the previous day. The average weekly price was down $74.65/mt from the previous week to $561.60/mt for the week ending April 11. Sources said that the ongoing tensions in trade due to the tariffs imposed on US products are affecting downstream markets in China. The US is still a major market for polyester, so traders say that the tariffs will have a negative impact on downstream markets. On April 10, the White House clarified that US tariffs on Chinese imports will be 145%, while tariffs for other countries would drop to 10%. Beijing imposed tariffs at 84%...
