Asian polystyrene rose $10-40/mt during the
week to June 8. This was due to firmer feedstock styrene, while China's demand
remained low because of low buying interest. General-purpose
polystyrene (or GPPS) rose $30-35/mt to $1,490-1,520/mt China and $1.570-2.500/mt
SEA on June 8. This was due to an uptrend in China's domestic market.
Discussions were held Yuan 400-450/mt higher at Yuan 11,300-11.400/mt or
$1,409-1,422/mt based on import parity. High-impact
polystyrene climbed $10-15/mt to $1,550-1,580/mt in China and $1,670-1,700/mt
in Southeast Asia during the week despite very few discussions. Although selling signals were more prominent this week, one
producer said that downstream strength was being weakened by buyers. This is
