Asian naphtha was not receiving the fundamental support

Asian naphtha was not receiving the
fundamental support it needed on June 21, as there has been very little buying
activity for the H1 August delivery cycle. This would normally have started
on June 16. Because
of uncertainty about China's recovery pace, some naphtha end-users might be
reluctant to commit to cargoes. Market
sources claim that buyers have been asking for extensions of term deliveries
for a period of 1-2 months. This is due to low demand and high refinery runs,
which has boosted domestic naphtha supplies. Market progress has been slowed by weak downstream margins. At the Asian close on June 20, CFR Northeast Asia ethylene
was $176.13/mt, while CFR Japan naphtha physically was $21.75/mt. This is a narrowing
of the key spread. Since May 13, it has
been below the $250/mt breakeven point...
