Asian isomer-mixed xylenes dropped $21-$27/mt on the trading day to $986.5-$1,006.20/mt FOB Korea and
$987-$1,007/mt CRU Unv1. $7-$8/mt to $959.5-$979/mt CRC China Oct. 18. The spread for
paraxylene-MX widened to $37.06-$43.34/mt from $12.5-$18.15/mt Oct. 17. This
was due to slightly higher prices for PX at $1,023.58-$1,063.76/mt October 18,
compared to $1,020-$1,060/mt just a day earlier. According to a Northeast Asian producer of PX, run rates are
already lower. A larger MX-based production unit for PX is currently closed. The producer said that a functional PX unit is
naphtha-based. In China, a new PX plant
will be online in November or December. A
producer hoped for a wider PXX-MX spread, but if the spread of PX-MX remains
weak, then the plant's launch may be delayed...
