The US Gulf Coast spot export of acetic
acid dropped $200-220/mt to $1,450-1,480/mt FOB USG on Aug. 4. Domestic
delivered prices fell to 61c/lb, a decline of 9 cents/b. This assessment was based on the most
conservative price movements following price drops in Asia. US pricing was
discussed at the $1,400 to$1,500/mt levels. The three
force majeures, LyondellBasell and Celanese, have caused prices to fall. Despite the
fact that force majeures are still in place, the supply is slowly returning to
the market. None of the companies responded immediately to a
