The Asian benzene market saw a $28.67/mt
increase in January 2023, with prices rising from $898/mt on Dec. 30, to
$898/mt on Jan. 3. Market participants stated that
traders were present in the market to secure cargoes. A trade was made in the
Market on Close process Jan. 3, at $893/mt FOB Korea and another trade after
MOC at $903/mtFOB Korea. Chinese market participants said that
traders are becoming more bullish on the market's future, as China relaxes
COVID-19 curbs and prices rise in many aromatics markets. The east
China domestic marker was up Yuan 265/mt at Yuan 6,905/mt during the session,
which equates to $862.30-882.50/mt if you consider import-parity. Prices for
downstream styrene monomer CFR China were up $51.50/mt since Dec. 30, at
$1,071/mt January.
