The Asian market for recycled low density polyethylene remained unchanged on June 4 amid a lack of trading activity. According to traders, buyers have taken a wait-and see approach because of macroeconomic uncertainty. In the last five years, recycled resin demand has grown at a lower rate than virgin resin. It grew by just 2.2% in the period to a little under 7.0 million tonnes (mt) in 2024. The recycling industry will experience a slow recovery, with a projected demand of 8.9 million mt in the next five-year period, which represents a modest compound growth rate (CAGR) of 5% until 2029.
