US Gulf Coast spot MTBE price
rose with front-month gasoline futures on Nov. 1, as no bids or offers were
received to contest the existing premium. MTBE 6.88cs higher at
339.45c/gal. The MTBE premium remained
stable at 80c/gal. According to sources,
MTBE supply is extremely tight. MTBE was not available on the spot market in
recent weeks. No shipments were observed
despite open arbitrage from Asia and Europe. A source recently stated that shipping has been discouraged
due to the volatility in energy futures, strong backwardation of RBOB futures,
and the time it takes to ship MTBE from Asia or Europe. The source said that it is impossible to predict the outcome
of a shipment until it arrives. NYMEX
