On Aug. 29, the Chinese methanol market
declined as a result of a weaker Yuan and growing spot supply. East China's
methanol prices were around Yuan 17-30/mt less than Aug. 26, at Yuan 2,528-3,000/mt
exp-tank Aug. 29. Methanol
traders in China stated that there was increasing spot supply after many Sichuan
methanol producers were granted approval to start production again. This is
because they had been required to reduce or shut down their production rate
during the earlier power cut. The Methanol
trader said that while you can see an increase in supply, the downstream demand
for methanol feedstock is still weak. That explains why both domestic and
