- Despite European production cuts, Styrene stocks remain
high despite a long-standing trend- Due to economic pressures, downstream styrenic consumption
remains low

Styrene prices continued to be under
pressure in Europe despite continuing production outages. The forward loading laycan for five to thirty
days was $1,112.75/mt FOB AR, which is $3.75/mt lower than the previous day. The low
demand in downstream markets for styrenic products has offset the reduced
production due to facility outages and lower run rates. According to
seasonality, construction demand saw a sharp decline in Q4, while global
inflation has severely affected automotive demand. Buyers were
withdrawing from the market, which meant that benzene activity upstream was
very low.
