The Asian Ethylene market
continued to feel the pressure from rising prices in the upstream naphtha
marketplaces. Selling and buying indications were higher every day due to
increasing feedstock costs. The buyers stated that they could not
pass the higher costs on to their downstream customers due to weak buying
interest. Some market sources reported
that margins for several derivative production lines were in negative
territory. Many stayed on the sidelines
due to a lackluster urgency in buying for arrivals in the second-half of March
and first-half of April. Given the
bullishness of the crude oil markets, which has driven up naphtha prices,
