Benzene price drops to $710.33/mt FOB Korea / Sinopec Zhenhai to begin phenolacetone production in June

Acetone prices declined in the week ending May 27. Asian phenol was stable. CFR China's phenol and acetone markers were $820/mt on May 27 amid limited discussion in the dollar market. A trader stated that there have been no recent deals or discussions. One distributor in Southeast Asia stated that acetone was oversupplied and there is stiff competition between sellers. The upstream benzene FOB Korea mark was down $18.67/mt on the week to $710.33/mt on May 27. This put phenol breakeven price at $910.30/mt and the cost of $200/mt. Propylene FOB Korea was down $20/mt from the previous week to $750/mt, placing acetone at $562.50/mt. China's domestic prices for acetone and phenol rose to approximately Yuan 6,700/mt, and Yuan 5,555/mt respectively. This translates to approximately $763.01/mt based on import parity...
