16 saw Asian methanol prices close higher, partly due to an increase in trading
activity in Southeast Asia and not regional fundamentals. China's last
week relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions lifted sentiment. There were few
discussions about fixed-priced January spot cargoes. Spot was instead
offered at a 1.5%-2.2% premium to ICIS Specific Origin China Methanol
prices. Longzhong Information Service data showed that coastal inventory
increased 14.16% over the week to 644,100mt Dec. 14. According to trade
sources, many of the methanol cargoes that were booked earlier arrived at
eastern China's main ports earlier this week. This explains the increase in
