The week ended May 6 saw
little trading activity on the Asian methanol markets. Many market participants
were away on the Hari Raya Puasa and Labour Day holidays. China returned from its three-day Labour Day holiday on May
5, and methanol futures rallied in response to the EU's proposal that Russian
oil imports be banned. The domestic
methanol price in East China rose to Yuan 90-100/mt, Yuan 2,790-2,820/mt for
prompt deliveries (or $340-360/mt based on an import-parity basis on May 5), but there
were few selling indications and they remained so until May 6. According to trade sources, it was a short week. Sellers
were careful not to offer fixed-price deals in the event...
