operating rates due to power cutMarket sources reported that Asian mono ethylene glycol prices remained stable on Aug. 19, despite thin trade. October ICE Brent crude
oil futures rose $1.57/b over the previous Asian close, to $95.55/b by 4:30 pm Singapore
time (0830 GMT). However, this did not lift sentiment. Sources claim that the heatwave in China has slowed
manufacturing activity and power cuts have impacted both upstream as well
downstream rates. Due to the heat, it was
also a slow time for textiles. Although
arbitrage was opening from China to Europe, traders warned that they may not be
able to profit from it. The all-in voyage
time from a deal to cargo arrival can take up to two months, making arbitrage
