was stable on Oct. 7, because the China market was closed during the Golden
Week holidays. The
December ICE Brent crude oils futures contract was $1.21/b higher than the previous
Asian close, which was $94.64/b at 4:30 PM Singapore time (0830 GMT). According to sources, polyester demand is low. Sources in China had previously reported that overall MEG
operating rates were around 50%. However, coal-based units averaged at lower
levels due mainly to low demand and high cost. Sources estimate that inventories in China are around
160,000 mt. This is around 20,000 to 30,000 mt less than at the beginning of
