polyethylene (LDPE) was less expensive in the week ending July 27, in a
historically weak season. Due
to low demand and high crude costs, PE prices are at their lowest level in a
year. Sources say that rising interest
rates have made it difficult for smaller converters to obtain loans. The strong
US dollar has also hurt imports. This
week, the South Asian LLDPE film was valued at $1270-1300/mt. Market participants in Pakistan have been affected by the
floods and the current political stability. A source said that "Establishment of LCs is a difficult
task. We have to get approval from the bank which then gets approval from Central
Bank. This has greatly affected our
ability to import material...
