The November contract
settlement resulted in the sharp fall of US Gulf Coast benzene prices. November FOB USG gasoline
was at 299c/gal. This is a 14-cent decrease from Oct. 3, when the price was at
298c/gal. Since Oct. 20, when the spot
price peaked at 338c/gal, it has been falling. Sources cite the impending
settlement as the reason for the declining offers and multiple days without
bidding. A source stated that "a lot
of cargoes have been fixed from Europe." According to data from American Fuel and Petrochemical
Manufacturers, inventories and production of benzene were both higher in the
