Map Ta Phut Asian high-density polyethylene prices rose in the week ending
Sept. 21 due to short covering and higher energy value. The November ICE Brent
crude oils futures contract was $0.26/b higher than the previous Asian close,
which was $90.92/b at 4:30 pm Singapore time (0830 GMT). Inventory was low, and buyers returned to the market. The price rise was not as significant as expected, however,
because imports remained expensive and most Asian currencies were depreciating
against US dollars. Due to low market
activity, South Asian HDPE prices remained stable during the week ending Sept.
