After a month of declining spot levels due
to lower demand and higher stocks, European benzene prices showed a flat trend
in the week ended Sept. 2. The
forward delivery layman for five to thirty days was estimated at $771-790/mt
CIF-ARA on the day, an increase of $12-18/mt. This was a decrease of $4-5/mt compared to the week starting
Aug. 26. The downstream market sentiment
from benzene was not positive, with little hope of recovering demand in
September, particularly from the polystyrene industry. Although demand remains unchanged, the high stock levels
could be offset by low run rates at European crackers. Spot pricing for styrene increased over the past week,
