European polystyrene market participants
were waiting for July 27th to end. They expected a significant decrease in
pricing due to the sliding spot price of upstream feedstocks in July. The prices of upstream feedstock styrene
monomers have dropped significantly during July, prompting discussion about a contract
pricing drop for August. This was due to a lack of buying
activity during the summer holidays, as well as high prices for polystyrene
that discouraged buyers. The spot price of styrene was $1,529-1,550/mt
FOB AR on July 27, which is $270-290 less than July 1. The benzene
spot price was also under pressure due to a significant drop in the market for
