The European market saw benzene prices rise
day by day after the closing of the trading window for the October contract price
settlement. This was Sept. 29. The
forward delivery lay could rise $1-2/mt to $796-820/mt over the buying interest
in October. The November prices rose,
showing a contango pattern between the two months. Through September, there was little demand for benzene.
However, downstream products showed a low interest due to energy costs
continuing to impact margins. Sources
suggest that October contract prices will not see much change over September

in the styrene spot market where the spread over benzene saw a wider trend in
the second half of August, before leveling off over the past...
