Due to higher crude oil futures and higher
upstream prices, Asian toluene prices rose Jan. 3. Jan. 3 was a rollover and took the average of
third and fourth half-month laycans. This is currently the first and second
half of February. During the Market on Close assessment process,
there were no transparent offers or bids in the toluene marketplace. According to
industry sources, there were at least two term tenders from China and Southeast
Asia. At least one contract was inked at a premium over a combination FOB China
and FOB Korea assessments. The details of the tenders were not
clear and could not have been confirmed because market participants were
returning to normal operations...
