US Gulf Coast spot acetic acid prices were down on the week June 16 as
buying activity remained at a minimum due to ongoing force majeures. Export
acetic acid was down $150 on the week at $1,850/mt FOB USG. The assessment took
into consideration the most conservative price movement as price levels were talked
as low as $1,600-$1,700/mt FOB USG. Demand for acetic acid was previously
described to be high by market sources as a current lack of US supply plays a
big part in elevated demand levels. US supply levels were expected to remain at
a minimum as LyondellBasell, INEOS Acetyls, and Celanese reach have ongoing
force majeures. "No update and availability, [is] still very tight"...
