Asian Acetic Acid/VAM : Prices of AA drop on weak demand, but VAM market remains steady /New AA capacities cloud price outlook in China /VAM Prices Could Rise on Impending Plant Turnarounds

Due to weak demand in Asia, acetic acid prices fell on July 10, while vinyl acetate prices remained stable. On the Chinese AA Market, Jiangsu prices were lower by Yuan $50/mt or $6.97/mt week over week, at Yuan 2,350-2400/mt (ex-tank) on July 10. The market sentiment was negative due to slower downstream demand, and worries about AA capacity expansions in the second half 2025 of approximately 3 million mt/year. FOB China is down $5/mt from last week to $300/mt. Prices were stable in the Asian vinyl monomer market despite a lack of trading during the week. Market sources expect dollar-denominated price increases as several VAM plant turnarounds, and new downstream capacities for ethylene vinylacetate in Northeast Asia, are scheduled to take place in August and September.
