As the tight supply in China eased, AA/VAM prices were softer. On March 27, discussions on the Chinese AA Market for cargoes FOB China loading in April ranged between $315 and $325/mt. According to market sources, inquiries for cargoes loading in the second half of May and early April have increased. FOB China acetic acids remained at $318/mt for the week ending March 27. Celanese Singapore's 600,000 mt/year Jurong Island acetic plant will be shut down in mid-April for maintenance work for a full month. This was revealed by a company insider on March 27. A company source could not confirm whether Celanese will also shut down its 210,000 mt/year Vinyl acetate Monomer unit on Jurong Island.
