In spite of weaker international prices, the Indian acetic market remained mixed during the week ending April 24. Ex-tank domestic offers were Rupees 39.50-40/kg in Kandla, and Rupees 38.5/kg in Mumbai port on 24 April. This was an increase of at least Rupees 1-1.5/kg from the previous week. Market sources claim that the increase in ex-tank price at Kandla was due to an unreasonably low inventory. Sources said that around 7,000mt of Iranian oil was expected to be unloaded at Mumbai port on April 25. A trader stated that March shipments were low due to the sharp drop in contractual volumes caused by the shutdown of a Chinese factory. "Quotes have increased, but demand is low at these prices."
