The US Gulf Coast spot price of acetic acid rose in the
week ended May 12, amid continuing force majeures. The week's export acetic
acid increased $115/mt-$125/mt to $1,765/mt-$1,785/mt FOB USG. This includes a
trade that was heard at this level. According
to a letter received by customers on April 19, LyondellBasell declared a state
of emergency at the La Porte, Texas, location for glacial acetic acids. According to a customer letter, LyondellBasell stated that
it had suffered a mechanical failure in its carbon monoxide supply network,
which is a feedstock for acetic acids. We
