Asian Orthoxylene: Declines $20/mt due to weaker downstream demand / Sinopec lowers list price to Yuan 6,600/mt / Market outlook uncer/ain in Asia

Asian orthoxylene prices fell $20/mt week over week as of Aug. 8, pressured by weaker downstream phthalic anhydride demand. On Aug. 4, China’s Sinopec reduced its OX list price by Yuan 200/mt to Yuan 6,600/mt due to bearishness in the PA market. This was Sinopec’s second downward adjustment since early July, when the list price was Yuan 7,000/mt. “PA demand is weak and losses are too severe ... downstream is showing resistance to the high-cost feedstock,” a market source said. OX-based PA discussions were heard around Yuan 6,300/mt, down Yuan 50/mt week over week. Market sources also attributed the downtrend in China’s OX prices to growing capacity and supply from September onward, as a producer is scheduled to restart operations after maintenance and new capacity is set to come online....
