MTBE rose $11.50/mt-$11.75/mt to $1,199.50/mt- $1,210/mt FOB Singapore May 12.
This was despite an increasing gasoline market. However, there was little discussion
in the MTBE spot trade. Market sources reported that there was talk about a flurry
of China-origin MTBE being imported into Singapore over the past months. This
was due to wider spreads between FOB Singapore and China's domestic MTBE
prices. A trader stated that the crude oil
price fell, so exporting MTBE may not be possible. According to a source close, Malaysia's Pengerang Refining
and Petrochemical (or PRefChem) plan to restart the 750,000 mt/year MTBE
facility at its integrated RAPID refinery in Johor in June....
