India PTA: Prices rise tracking PX values; domestic demand weak / Downstream demand weaker than usual for July / Container availability from Asian origins to India improves

Purified terephthalic acid prices in India rose day over day and week over week as of July 25, tracking stronger feedstock paraxylene values. The spread between CFR China and CFR India weakened slightly during the week. Sentiment remained weak due to poor domestic demand in the downstream segments, according to market sources. PTA CFR India as up $12/mt day over day to $729/mt, placing the spread with CFR China at $78/mt. The weekly average was up $11/mt at $715.4/mt CFR India. The spread between CFR China and CFR India narrowed $2/mt from a week earlier to $78/mt, as market sources noted improved container availability from Asian origins to India.
