Asian purified terephthalic acid prices softened in the week to July 18, weighed down by weaker crude oil and continued lackluster demand from the polyester sector. PTA FOB China at $627/mt July 18, up $5/mt day over day. The weekly average was $9.40/mt lower week over week at $624.80/mt in the week to July 18. Spot prices dipped earlier in the week before recovering slightly, as sentiment shifted amid weaker upstream crude and reports of major Chinese producers further cutting run rates in the polyester filament yarn sector.
