Asian Caprolactam: Prices inch up on cost pressures, tighter supply / Aug demand could slowly improve as tariffs clear, US-China tensions ease / CPDC August contract price at $1,250/mt / Thailand’s June caprolactam exports fall 22% MoM, 70% YoY

Asian caprolactam prices inched up in the week ended July 31, amid cost pressures and tighter supply. “Prices were firmer this week, supported by stronger benzene and ammonia prices. The spread is just too low and leaves no room for further downside,” said a buyer source. “Tighter supply and lower operating rates due to unexpected output reductions at Lunan Chemical and Cangzhou Risun Chemicals in Northern China have contributed to the recent rebound in Chinese caprolactam prices.” Despite favorable conditions on both the cost front and supply side, downstream demand reportedly remained sluggish, according to several market sources. “We haven’t made any sales this week ... Looks like we’ll have to wait until the fall season for recovery,” said a local distributor. Looking ahead, market sources expect overall downstream demand...
