Asian MMA and PMMA: China domestic prices climb on tight supply / NE Asia exports still face headwinds / SE Asia buyers focus on contract volumes

Asian MMA prices rose $10/mt week over week at $1,155/mt CFR China and $1,255/mt CFR Southeast Asia on Aug. 6, driven by tighter cargo availability in China. China’s domestic MMA market rebounded early in the week of Aug. 4 after a prolonged downturn as prompt supply tightened. A plant disruption at a major producer in East China, coupled with scheduled maintenance and idled capacity, pushed domestic prices up nearly Yuan 300/mt week over week. However, several sources said the uptick in the domestic market was more a result of supply shortages than a sustainable demand recovery.
