Spanish integrated energy company Repsol is set to launch a 15,000 tonne-per-year ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) plant at its Puertollano complex in Spain by 2026. This facility, which was initially planned to start operations in 2024, will utilize technology licensed from Dutch producer DSM. The project is expected to contribute to earnings growth within Repsol’s petrochemicals segment, particularly in its olefins business. The company expects that the modernized Sines site could add between €80 million and €85 million to second-quarter Ebitda under low-margin market conditions, and approximately €135 million if market conditions are average.
