Asian paraxylene prices continued to fall on Aug. 1, under pressure from weak downstream sentiment and a retreat in crude oil futures. Asian paraxylene down $13.66/mt day over day at $845.67/mt CFR Taiwan/China. Spot PX lost support as crude oil futures softened, dragged down by a stronger US dollar and renewed geopolitical uncertainty. The front-month ICE October Brent crude oil futures were down $1.50/b to $71.84/b at the Asian close on Aug. 1. Market sentiment was further rattled by US President Donald Trump’s decision to impose 25% tariffs on Indian imports just ahead of the Aug. 1 deadline. Trump also warned of potential penalties if India continues to import Russian crude, a move analysts say could complicate global crude supply chains and heighten market volatility.
