Fundamentals in the Indian methanol market Aug. 1 continued to be weighed down by uncertainties surrounding trade with Iranian methanol producers after two key Indian chemical trading companies were listed under US sanctions on July 30. The news triggered panic in the Indian methanol market, which relies heavily on Iranian methanol imports. “Indian traders can’t function like this,” said an importer. With more than 50% of India’s methanol supply reliant on Iran, it would be difficult for the Indian market to work smoothly, sources said. “We all are in an unpredictable realm,” said an importer, “the problem is not unidimensional.” A weak Indian rupee also pressured domestic markets.
